Sour Cream and Onion Buttermilk Ranch Dip

Sour Cream and Onion Buttermilk Ranch Dip

Sour Cream and Onion Buttermilk Ranch Dip takes the title for Favorite Dip at my house.  And that’s saying a lot, considering I might be the world’s biggest fan of dips and dressings.  What can I say?  I’m a dipper.  And naturally, so are my kids!  I have to admit, I’m that annoying person that has to have ranch with my pizza and fries.  Alright fine, I admit it, I’ll put ranch on just about anything.  Anything that is…except salad.

What can I say, I’m weird!

There are a few brands I’ll settle for at the store in a pinch, but most of the time, I make my own ranch dip because it just tastes so much better.  My family loves the flavors of sour cream and onion, so for this dip, I mix in sour cream, and go heavy on the chopped green onions (chives are delicious in here, too!).

Mmm, just look at all that garlicky, creamy, onion-y goodness!  You just might even convince me to put this ranch on my salad.

Maybe.

However you plan on using your ranch dip…Enjoy!

  • Just so happens I have some buttermilk in the fridge and I eat crudite at lunch almost every day. This one will be in my lunch box next week! One question – I always thought scallion was another word for green onion but I see you have made a distinction. What’s a scallion?

  • Nice, hope you enjoy this dip as much as my family does! Yes, as far as I know, scallions and green onions are the same thing. If a food item goes by more than one name, I like include all the possible names for it in my recipes, in case someone only knows it by a certain name. Thank you for that for bringing to my attention, I can see how that may be confusing! Maybe I should say “also known as” instead of “or”?

    • I just went back and checked the recipe, and the “or scallion” was supposed to be listed next to the green onion, not the yellow onion! Thank-you for catching this! I omitted it!:)

  • I’ll admit, I usually make dips from packets O_o This is such a better alternative – perfect for veggies and I’d totally use this as a salad dressing, yum!

  • Thank you! Yes, this is way better, you’ll love it! I bet this would be amazing on a Southwestern style salad. As much as I don’t like ranch on salad, that sounds so good I just might have to try that, haha!

  • Hi Riva, this recipe is so inspiring! It got me thinking how I can veganize it 🙂 love that you’re a marathon runner, I’m a newbie (trail) runner and I’ll be following for some running tips

  • I LOVE sour cream and onions, and I LOVE dippy dip dips! haha! I myself also dip everything: pizza, fries, finger. I so need this just hanging out in my fridge for everyday!
